Comparing the Price of Used Car to the Price of a New Car
Part 3 -Burn
One evening, after heating up my car on the drive home, I was invited to dinner. These extra miles pushed my overheating car into the red zone. At dinner, Antonia's husband took his best guess at the cause, "sounds like the water pump".
On the way home, I stopped at a gas staion to check the radiator levels.
Oops, I burned the shit out of my hand. I kicked myself and resolved to take care of this infernal overheating problem at a proper mechanic.
The next morning the car overheated immediately and I headed directly to a car repair place: Ozmotive - Specializing in Honda and Acura.
They asked about the overheating and braced me for the worst possibility. Had I let it overheat a little or a LOT? How many times had it been in the heat gauge's red zone? It might be a blown head gasket. I got a ride to work and awaited the verdict.
I was in luck. It was the thermostat! $129 and I was home free. Tragically they didn't get the part on that day, and I had to survive the weekend without it. I rented a car.
That added another $100 to the fix. But I still came away feeling lucky. The head gasket was tight!
