The Matt Mira and Greta Breakup

When they moved in together, Matt was in LA, working at the Apple store, working on the Nerdist TV pilot. Greta lived in San Francisco, but was visiting every week, eventually moved down to find a place, using Matt's home as a staging point.

She spend a lot of time at Matt's house, but at the end of the month, she had found her own place in Studio City. She had her own place now, but was spending a lot of time at Matt's place.

They were together, it was an up and down relationship. Matt hated her staying over all the time. They fight about it, she stays over anyway.

Q. Why didn't they break up?

A. Matt doesn't know. Is stuck with the question himself, worried what Greta is going to do if she loses him, her primary social contact in Los Angeles. He says later that he was afraid "she might "snap".

Matt gets busy, writing and hosting for Attack of the Show and touring with Nerdist.
In November 2011, he sees Greta for 6-7 hours per week. Matt is being an awful boyfriend.

Greta is flirting with someone at work.

Matt suggests that they go somewhere together, like Disneyland or Vegas, so they plan a trip to Vegas.
Not long after the plans are made, Matt finds out about the Pete and Pete reunion show scheduled for that very same day. (November 2011).

Matt invites Greta to the Pete and Pete reunion show, but Greta doesn't want to go, because it is, in her estimation, a poor substitute for going away together to Vegas for the weekend. They go on a break.

The Break
Matt loved it. But, after a spell her anger had subsided, and Greta suggested they could be together again.
He got "locked back in" by suggesting that he "could be OK with it".

They had an awkward Thanksgiving, and at some point, Matt catches Greta going through his cellphone. "Because she's trying to find out what's going on with him by going through his other conversationts". Matt allows it, in part to gain ammo against her.

Then, a few weeks later, before Christmas, Matt catches Greta editing a sexy picture on her phone reflected in the tinted windows of his Jeep.
Matt, not believing that the picture is for him, snatches the phone, sees texts from a married guy named LaShaun or something like that, along the lines of "When am I going to see some pics?".

They fight. They still don't break up.

January
In January, Greta is pushing to move out of her bad apartment, floats the idea of moving in together. There is a thought that they might fight less if they live together, as many of their fights are about who is encroaching on whose apartment.
Matt agrees!

They move in together in a two-story townhouse. The perfect place.

Matt is back to working a lot, they are arguing a lot. Matt buys six expensive guitars. From February to March, Matt is gone a lot, suggests that Greta hang out with his best friend, an ex-co-worker from Matt's old store, where Greta was also employed. Matt in on the road a lot, away from home, loves it! His friends are coaching him to break up with her.

Confesses to his best friend that he would like to break up with Greta, is not having sex with her. His friend consoles him.

Goes to Wisconsin. Matt steels himself to break up with her. Goes to Chicago, tries to break up before leaving, fails to break up with her.

April 2012
Gets a text at 2:30am, from his best friend's wife. She reports that she has just found a dirty text message on her husband's phone from Greta saying "I want to ____ your ____ ____ ____."
Matt wakes Greta and they have a big fight. She doesn't explicitly deny that she sent the text message.

Greta and Matt break up.

Greta was a mess. Matt doesn't talk to his best friend again. Investigation of actual cheating (sex) is inconclusive.

Greta moves out in late May or early June. Matt gets texts from Greta until December 2012.

It was a mess, it was a mess, it was a mess.
