Eating Out

On Wednesday, March 3rd, I went to lunch at Taco Loco, or as Hamilton calls it, Crazy Taco.

I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla and a drink, which was very nice, but cost a pretty $8.75 total.

I took a coffee break that afternoon and got a lowfat mocha for $3.
I couldn't find anyone to have dinner with that night, so I went to the Natural Foods Co-op.
I got the two-salad sampler, Kung Pao Tofu and Garlic Pasta. I brought it home to eat.

It was just $4.22, and provided a rollercoaster ride of emotions. At first I was disappointed at the small portion of food, but when I tasted it, I was thrilled. They really make great salads at the Co-op deli.

My meal had one more disappointment in it though, a single straight black hair.

Have you ever noticed that you never find hair in food you cook yourself?

On Thursday, I asked my boss if he wanted me to pick him something up for lunch, he asked where I was going.

"Nationwide Meats", I said.

"No thanks, I don't want to have a heart-attack". He replied.

The french ground steak burger is their specialty. This is a really, really good, big burger.  I ordered one with cheese and a large Coke. $7.48

Nationwide is a little gem, hidden on 20th and H Streets. It is the kind of place where you could easily become a regular. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, and the people that work there seem to enjoy being there.

The ground french burger kept me satisfied late into the evening, but I finally at around 11pm I grabbed some dinner, leftover KFC.

On Friday I picked up some donuts at Happy Donut on J Street.

I've always been amazed at the donut-getter's ability to know exactly which donut I am pointing at in a 7x8 array of sprinkles and glaze.

The donuts were $7.70 plus tax.

I didn't eat all of the donuts, but I'm going to include the total price of the donuts in the month-end totals. By the end of March, I'll have enjoyed my share of community treats.

Friday was a great day, in part because of the donuts.

On a delivery before lunch, I snapped a shot of this team-building tree-planting scene.

We picked up lunch at I (Heart) Teriyaki. Jason's brother was in there, picking up a delivery and we said hi. I see that guy everywhere!

A television in the restaurant was tuned to Headline News. Martha Stewart had just been found guilty on all charges.

I had sesame chicken, with rice, salad and slaw. $7.40.
On Friday night I went out to a pig roast in Davis.

There was a whole wild boar being sliced to pieces, and a huge table of side dishes and beer.
The incredible story behind the party is that Brooke's friend Rick Bush bagged the boar himself.

He spent three days tracking the boar through the woods before shooting it with a bow and arrow, and then hosted a dinner to raise funds to complete his graduate thesis research on threatened North Coast California Steelhead Trout.

Dinner was boar, potato salad, bread and beer. It was excellent.

Please continue reading Saturday, March 6th.
