I inherited $16,000 from my grandmother's estate when I was 16. This was in 1980, so it was a pretty sizable chunk o

return the computer, get a refund, and buy another. Stupid scheme, but it ended up working for me!

I joined a small company near it's start-up and bought 10K worth of their stock. We grew and sold to a big company a
few years later. I made 50K, less taxes. I put it in a money market account. I now have 52k there. I take cash out
to buy a car every few years and pay myself back monthly at 3% interest. I treat it as any other loan. That fund
makes me feel secure.

We were in Vegas; the girlfriend taught me how to play video blackjack in an attempt to break even while collecting on
free drinks. You have to be at a terminal at the bar, I would suggest ordering beer. They can't water that down.
Basically just play conservative blackjack while loading up on free drinks! Get tanked for 3 or 4 dollars! If you are
lucky you can make just enough to cover the bartenders tip!

Rather than leave her 26 grandkids $2,000 each when she passes away, my awesome grandmother took us all on a cruise for
her 85th birthday. She paid for our entire families. There were 83 of us total. Her 8 kids, 26 grandkids, wives,

I've had several windfalls.
I lucked out and got a valuable domain name. I sold it a year later for $500.
My wife has been raking in the dough with unexpected overtime at work. That's kind of a tough trade off, but the extra
money is nice.
My wife is also... well... a klutz. AFLAC rawks when you're a klutz. $800 for broken arm. $1200 for broken ankle. Even
$200 for a cracked finger.

I won an iPod Shuffle with a code on a Slurpee cup. By the time the contest ended, Apple had stopped making the iPod
Shuffle, so they sent me a $75 gift card to the Apple store. I gave it to my wife's aunt who had some money troubles
so my niece could get an iPod for Christmas.

I received about $5000 when my grandma died in 2003, and I used it to pay for my tuition when I studied abroad in New
Zealand...
And I just won a new car on Saturday, so technically, it's not a "cash windfall", but when I have $300 in the bank and
new student loans cropping up every year, winning a $25,000 car with taxes paid was pretty damn cool!

During the dotcom years my Silicon Valley roomate's exercised his million dollars worth of stock options. He kept the
stock rather than selling, hoping to save a few percent in taxes. The stock declined and he had to sell most
everything to pay his tax bill. He wound up with only $11k and a pink slip, and soon went to live with his sister when
he was broke.

I was a starving student but I was in the right place at the right time when Skylab crashed to earth - while I took
photos of it.
I rushed to the local paper and 30 minutes later the photos were being faxed around the world by an AAP guy.
I was published in many papers and in Time and Newsweek and they paid me a heap of money - thanks to a nice AAP guy who
saw me right.

I inherited over @2,000,000 from my grandfather. I bought a cabin on a lake and put a modest addition on my house. The
rest is invested because as a teacher in CT (We don't pay into Social Security) I'll get PENNIES when I retire. The
best part about inheriting is that now I CHOOSE to work (same job) as opposed to NEED to. Makes a big diff. when faced
with difficult students/parents.

about $15000 from driving bad (aka insurance payouts from accidents). most of that money was spent paying my car
insurance bill for the last 5 years (high risk insurance= high premiums). won $400 on one roll in Crapps while on a
business trip in Green Bay. I was rolling 11s and 12s, and this high roller who won about 5k off of my rolling placed a
$25 bet for me and i won on the next roll

I got stock options worth $4000 from a job when I was 22. This was right after having my heart broken by a big-talker
who didn't follow through on much. I used the money to get my pilot's license. Best way to heal a broken heart.
This year's tax refund will go towards converting my diesel VW to run on veggie oil so I won't be contributing to the

my house burned down and i got $30,000 after paying it off. later that week, some guy crashed into a tree in my yard,
dug a rut with his tires, and knocked down my mailbox. his insurance paid me $5000 for that. i also sold a car that
month, moved onto campus and partied like a rockstar. i blew around $40,000 on drugs and alcohol and steak in just two
semesters. the memories are priceless

Buying a football at a Wal-mart. I place $20 on the counter. The cashier looks at it but doesn't take it, so I put it

My parents gave my wife and I $1000.00 on our wedding day & along with other cash we received that day, it paid for our

I sold a rubber band ball that was about ten inches tall on ebay. I got $59 for it, if you can believe that! And all
the rubber bands came from my job, so the start up cost was minimal. I also made the entire thing at my desk at work so

After I turned 21, I went on a trip to Vegas with 3 friends. About 2hrs into the trip, I won a $500 "jackpot" on a 50
cent slot in Caeser's. Shortly thereafter I won another $150-175, I can't recall. I mentioned going to the strip club,
but they complained of having no money to go so I gave each of them $100 and we went to Crazy Horse Too. I went home
that night with no money left.

I fell 20 feet off of a roof while working. I got several checks from the insurance company over several months totaling
nearly $10,000. We used that money to put a downpayment on a house. My Wife and kids got hit in our minivan by a
passenger van full of kids from a school that ran a red light going over 50 MPH. Their insurance company paid us

My husband got hit by a front end loader in a junyard while scavaging for parts for his 1983 VW jetta back in 2000. The
front end loader hit his leg and dislocated it at the hip. He got about $40K after legal fees and medical costs. We

Both my daughters set up leprechaun traps on St. Patrick’s Day. After they went to bed, I wrote them each a note from

A 16 year old smashed up my car when she was drunk and in dad's company car, so needless to say her insurance company
was dragging their feet about settling up. After two months I got tired of calling myself, so I enlisted my then
boyfriend (now husband) to call on my behalf. They thought he was a lawyer and doubled what my car was worth in the
settlement I received a week later.

When I was in middle school I got almost $20,000 as a settlement from a car accident that I was a passenger in. After I

1999 tech boom, I was offered $25,000 as a retention bonus for not leaving a tech job after some layoff's. After

I sold an empty keg that I stole from a bar one night (and carried ten blocks) for $50 on Craigslist last week.
Also, since turning 21 a year ago I have played craps once with a friend in Reno and twice with my father in Vegas.
Each time, while rolling, I've netted over $1000 while my friend made about $300 and my father pulled in about $5000.
The money is in odds bets.

When I was about 8, my mom and I went shopping for used skates. The skatemonger threw in a kielbasa, a bag of wild rice

My 4yo daughter won $25 certificate in the Ft Monroe egg splash. She found the magic numbered plastic eggs from the

never gotten a bonus before, and mine was $1,200. I used half to pay off credit card debt and half to buy a drum set

Now I am 26. My fiance and I started a games and hobby store. We started with a $10k investment, put in 5 years work

Bought the flat above me to rent out and then the top floor flat 18 months later to rent out also. Spent 6 years
completely skint, paying the difference between rent and mortgage, then sold all three in 2007 for £690000 ($1250000)
clearing £255000 ($460000) profit after tax. So now have no mortgage, no debt and £65000 ($115000) in the bank.
