August 12, 2006 - Colors in clothing and fashion are pre-planned, years in advance.

Colors in clothing and fashion are pre-planned, years in advance. Although Banana Republic and J.Crew are competing with one another, they have good reason to work together when it comes color trends. By coordinating their color schemes, they can make pieces of clothing that tend to match clothing from other stores. Shoes, purses, socks and hats, if you don't know what colors are going to be big, you would waste millions of dollars manufacturing clothing that won't fit into anyone's wardrobe. To help get everyone on the same page, the Pantone company ("where color comes from") issues "predictions" about what colors are going to huge in 2009. Pantone ("The Color Authority") sells a full season of color schemes for $750.

"The PANTONE VIEW Colour Planner is a biannual trend forecasting tool that offers seasonal color direction and inspiration 24 months in advance for multiple usages, including menswear, women's wear, activewear, cosmetics and industrial design. "
