I love the simplicity of the Sword in the Stone attraction at Disneyland.

It is a sword lodged in an anvil, on top of a cement pillar. Kids try to pull it out.

There is sometimes a ceremony, where a kid is allowed to pull the sword out. I have no idea what the mechanism is which keeps it stuck there.
