I get lots and lots of email regarding the herbalife story I wrote last April.
Here are the ones from November, 2003:

Hallo,

Was sagt uns das?
Leben ist immer lebensgefährlich und für diejenigen, die ein halbvolles Glas als halblleer bezeichnen ist es noch viel Gefährlicher.
Es gibt mit Sicherheit wesentlich schlechtere Produkte.

Hey there Rob!

Honestly, I don't even know where to begin with my own reign-of-terror diatribe concerning Global Online Systems / Herbalife. I'm from the Youngstown, Ohio area and we're hard hit with their campaigns as well. However you've missed some of their key marketing strategies! LOL. Yes, can you believe it?

Besides the "tried and true" and now "rocks in a bag," they have LAWN POSTERS. LAWN POSTERS! Typically and most often associated with politicians running for office or to advertise a lawn care business, or home security system.

They literally get a piece of wood, and staple their posters to it - then stake it in the ground a long the sides of highways, in residential neighborhoods, etc. The most common slogan for those is: "WORK FROM HOME 4 EVER!"

They also have the mini lawn signs - tiny posters taped or wired to a metal frame similar to the croquet gates used to play the game, which is also popular during election times. They ARE doing the bulletins with the rip-off phone number strips at the bottom (especially in grocery stores) and I even saw one ad in our local papers some weeks back promoting a distributors surplus of unsold Herbalife products for FUNDRAISING! Christmas cards, wrapping paper, Easter candy - sure. Herbalife for a fundraiser?! It's laughable but I hope that gimmick doesn't catch on.

>From the sounds of it, people are becoming so desperate I'm worried someone will snap, like purchasing a gigantic banner ad to plaster up high along the highways or even worse, film their own independent TV commercial using a regular camcorder.

Your website is terrific, keep up the good work!

Sincerely,
C, from Ohio.

P. S - Here's a new Herbalife website that's "fancy," has a slide presentation and all the hyped up web coding and design.

Hi Rob,

I have seen the article that you have written about Herbalife and correct me if I am wrong, it seems like you have a negative impression of network marketing. I am actually a network marketer myself and have seen Herbalife coming to Singapore these couple of months with in a very aggressive manner but I understand from my friend in Thailand that Herbalife has actually started to shrink its operations in Thailand. Could you provide an insight to this? Are there any companies that you think is good from your point of view?

Best regards
Eugene

Thanks for your report on Herbalife.

I have been out of work for the last year (I was in I.T.) a was getting desperate. I'm glad I read your report prior to lining someone else's pockets.

Rob,

I was looking at your website. From what I understand Herbalife hasn't done signs now in 2 years this coming April. You seem to really feature it on your site still. (other than a short epilogue) You seem angry about something that happened a long time ago and is over with. Time for a change??

Hi Rob....just wanted to thank you for posting your research online regarding Herbalife. I was laid off recently from a very good job and have been checking Monster every day. This morning, as usual, I checked the Human Resource category and the 1st listing was for a company Global Online....with an attached presentation regarding the benefits of working for this "home-based" company. I asked a friend of mine to check it out and after doing so, he forwarded me your website requesting that I check it out before proceding with Global Online. I'm so glad I did! No way would I want to be involved with this scam!! Thanks so much for helping me to "read between the lines".....

Sincerely,
Bev

thanks for writing that article. Here is Illinois, this is a big scam as well. Those same signs are all over the neighborhoods too. It seems to increase during the summer...Think they are trying to get new college graduates who can't get a job? It is too bad it is a scam since there are alot of folks who truly need to be able to work from home. From your article, it is not a "work at home" type of job anyway, all that driving around and putting up signs and flyers.

I haven't checked out your entire site, but I plan to, it appears to be funny and interesting.

Thanks again,

Marcy from Illinois
DEAR ROB,
SHAME ON YOU !! I KNOW YOU PROBABLY DONT WANT TO HEAR THE GOOD WITH THE BAD, BUT TO DAMN BAD! I AM A 22 YEAR OLD FEMALE FROM NY WHO HAS BEEN WITH HERBALIFE FOR 3 YEARS. NO, I AM NOT A MILLIONAIRE NOR DO I MAKE $20,000 A MONTH, BUT HERBALIFE DID GET ME OUT OF DEBT AND INTO MY OWN HOME AT THE AGE OF 21! I HAVE AVERAGED ABOUT $3000 A MONTH VERY PART TIME FOR THE LAST 2.5 YEARS AND IT HAS PROVIDED MY 2 YEAR OLD WOTH A STAY AT HOME MOM, FOOD ON THE TABLE AND A VERY NICE ROOF OVER OUR HEADS! YOU MUST BE A VERY BORED PERSON TO SPEND SO MUCH TIME, MONEY AND ENERGY BEING A MISERABLE PERSON WHO HAS NOTHING BETTER TO DO!! OH YEA, AND I LOST 125 POUNDS ON HERBALIFE AS WELL, WHY DONT YOU ADD THAT TO YOUR REPORTS !! IT ALSO GOT ME OFF 4 MEDICATIONS I HAD BEEN ON SINCE I WAS 12 YEARS OLD. I DONT CARE WHAT YOU THINK, BUT YOU NEED TO HEAR THE GOOD AS WELL. NO, EVERYONE DOES NOT MAKE IT IN HERBALIFE, THAT IS TRUE WITH ANY BUSINESS!!!!

FIND SOMETHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR TIME THEN TO GRIPE ABOUT A COMPANY THAT HAS HELPED MORE PEOPLE THEN ANY OTHER PRIVATE COMPANY IN THE WORLD, AND THATS A FACT!!! FOR GODS SAKE BITCH ABOUT PHILLIP MORRIS FOR KILLING PEOPLE WITH HIS TOBACCO OR SOMETHING MORE LEGIT! AND GET OVER IT!

Hallo,
