The Big Carl is obviously \"bigger\" based on the weight, but it doesn\'t dwarf the Big Mac like it does in the commercials. I mean, check out the big, juicy, beefy patties on the Carl in the commercial compared to those tiny little mini patties on the commercial Big Mac. Looks like the patty size is closer in real life. Also, does anyone else find it somewhat puzzling that the Carl patties in the commercial have grill marks on the side? That doesn\'t seem to make much sense to me.

In the add, they\'ve got to be using titanium lettuce if it\'s supposed to be supporting 1/2 a pound of meat like that. It looks like those (painfully) large patties are levitating. P.S. When you said that the Carl\'s weighs over half a pound, my stomach *literally* hurt. I can\'t imagine trying to digest that much beef in one sitting.

But the Big Carl at least had a greater mass—and therefore more substance—than the Big Mac. Of course, taste is a very important factor too, though the ad apparently made no claims about it. I find it odd that the bottom layer of lettuce in the big carl is as think as one of the meat patties. its obvious that their picture has been modified. A food stager assembled Big Carl for the TV shoot with the crispest pieces of lettuce that could be found, and also toasted the top/bottom buns to make the burger as visually tall as possible. They have to use the actual food product in the ad, but they can manipulate the appearance for cosmetic and visual appeal. I think that Big Carl is also subject to a certain amount of \"shrinkage\" when he\'s wrapped up tight in his protective covering, and he ends up not so Big.

If you look, Big Mac has an extra layer of bread, which contributes the height. But Big Carl weighs more, in beef. As for how they look in the commercial, all of it is food photography to make it look more appealing, all about getting the customer in to buy. If I had to pick one, it would be Big Carl\'s, rather have the meat than the bread.

No! Did you even taste them? I know the Carl\'s burger tastes better, and it\'s bigger by weight which really should be all that matters. When you factor in price, it\'s no contest. Carl\'s wins. It may be fluffed up to look taller, but it is still clearly the bigger burger. Plus McDonald\'s didn\'t even give you napkins - it seems to me that besides the height controversy, Carl\'s blows Big Mac away. Plus the height disparity is mainly a product of the packaging.

You\'ve gotta be kidding me. The burger shown in the commercial is bigger than the big mac! In real life, it is much, much shorter! The commercial is 100% focused on showing the two compared, and Carls Jr. depiction is completely misleading. Sure, maybe you don\'t like bread, but you can\'t create the illusion that Carls has replaced the bread with meat!

As someone who spent more time of his high school days working at McDonald\'s, I can tell you from experience that the Big Mac patties are each 1/10 lb (1.6 oz.). That\'s the size of the normal hamburger patties at McD\'s. The Big Carl uses two 1/4 lb patties. Therefore, comparing a Big Mac to a Big Carl is like comparing little apples to big apples. A real comparison would be a double quarter pounder at McD\'s. Just add lettuce and \"special sauce\" (1000 Island dressing).

So though i believe there is some photographic trickery happening i think there are some factors that are not included: 1. The big mac has 1 more piece of bread than the BC, and also the lettuce is shredded instead of in leaves. these make it thicker. 2. Take into consideration the packaging; The BC is wrapped, compressing the bread. The BM is boxed, leaving the bread uncompressed.

My issue is that the \"Fiction\" line area is pretty much the same thickness of the \"lettuce\" being portrayed in the commercial. Maybe in zero-gravity, the leaf lettuce would be able to maintain over an inch of thickness while supporting the two beef patties and bun and toppings. There\'s your real lie - maybe you should carve all of those ingredients out of wood and paint them in order to more-replicate the burgers that are portrayed in commercials. What a sad world we live in named \"Reality\".

Mr. Roboto
Sunday 10th of January 2010 8:14 pm

either way, you have to admit the Carl is bigger in weight, and the only reason the Big Mac would be taller is because it has three buns, instead of two. i\'d totally eat that Carl any day over the Big Mac

It is intresting to see where with in the structural make up of the burgers that the height is lost. Quite clearly the lettuce in the carl Jr ad is on steroids and has given a lot of height to the ad picture, the burgers are also squished together more in reality, however the buns in both appear to be fairly accurate. Fast food is what makes us americans so high on the worlds fat list anyway so avoid all this crap at all costs!

The Carl\'s Jr. is wider, the Carl\'s Jr. is heavier, but the Big Mac came in a spacious roomy box, not wrapped tight in a bag, so it didn\'t get compressed. Caveat: I prefer the Carl\'s Jr. over Big Mac because Carl\'s is flamebroiled, not fried! :)

Indeed, Carl\'s Junior fudged their facts. HOWEVER! Weighing more is a good thing. The meat patties were definately thicker according to your pictures. And note how much of the fictional space of the Carl\'s sandwich would actually be taken up my the big mac\'s useless third piece of bread. The Mach is taller, but it\'s height is made up mostly of bread, it\'s more expensive and weighs less. I say the Carl\'s Junior burger is definately bigger and a better value. Now go do some situps.

Actually, sir, the Mcdonald\'s burger is only taller due to the middle bun, granting it at least an inch of extra height. I recommend running the test again, this time taking into account weight, price, nutritional value, and tastiness. This data is unavailable to me, for I live in the south east... We don\'t have Carl Jr.s here. We got Micky D\'s, BK, Wendy\'s, Hardee\'s, and the more expensive Five Guys. That Big Carl looks very much like it has been squashed, perhaps by being wrapped too tightly? Put it in a box (or leave off the wrapping entirely) and it will stand much taller. Besides, though it is depicted as such in the commercial, there is not claim that the Big Carl is actually -taller- than the Big Mac. Just larger and less expensive. Your example backs up both of these claims.

The reason why is because the big mac and allot of the sandwiches on the McDonalds menu had a bunch of quality complaints about the burgers being smashed and not as big as what was advertised hence the 100% recycled box it sits in.
