If you need someone to keep an eye on your dogs for the weekend, or to make sure the boiler pressure never exceeds 19 inches, the best plan is to ask someone who is responsible. The next-best choice is to ask someone who is irresponsible, but make sure they realize that they are the only one who is watching it. 

It can be tempting to assign two irresponsible people to keep an eye on a situation, because you could envision them as a double-layer defense system, however, it is very likely that both will shift that duty and responsibility to one another, and not be as mindful of the situation.
