With every costume, there are at least a couple of design kinks to work out.

For the Dwight Shrute Bobblehead costume, The design kinks were the springy support system and the viewport.

I wanted the viewport to be opaque and to look pink from the front, but as transparent as possible from inside. My first attempt, painting plastic screen, looked too weird from the front, so I tried a bunch of different cloth, hoping to find something that was a good compromise.

My next tries were with two more net fabrics. Unfortunately, they were both nylon, and the paint had a hard time sticking to them.

My next trip to Fabricland yeilded black burlap, a see-through cotton fabric, and some white cheesecloth.

The burlap soaked up paint really well, but once painted, it was almost impossible to see through.

The same thing was true of the cotton fabric. All the holes filled in with paint.

My last hope was the cheesecloth.
