I bought this red 1987 Acura Integra in March 1998.

It had 90,000 miles, and I loved it.

It was fast and comfortable, but it wasn't so nice that I was afraid to park it next to a Monte Carlo.

I once screwed a video camera to the front bumper, covered it with aluminum foil twice, and drove the hell out of it.

The worst thing I did to it was to drive with the hood unlatched. It popped up at about 50 mph and curled back into the windshield.

The second worst thing I did was to bring it to Burning Man.

Yessir, that Acura served me well. In good times and in bad.

The odometer was at 179,000 when the speedo cable broke. That was in 2003.

It developed an annoying overheating problem.

I replaced the thermostat and the radiator, but it didn't help. It was the beginning of the end.

Finally, on April 9th, the timing belt broke.

The repair estimate came back at $550, and the repair shop warned me that the valves might have been destroyed when the timing snapped. It was a difficult decision, but I didn't have it repaired.

I had the car towed back to my home. I was tempted to post an auction on ebay, but posting car auctions is pricey - $80. I posted a description on Craigslist a couple of times, at $220 and then $150, but it didn't rouse any interest whatsoever.

I began putting other plans into place.
